A
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Everyone
is very conscious about how they look, especially the youth. Nowadays, you see
a lot of teenagers in the gym. They spend most of their time in the gym and it
seems that they consider it as their second home. Inside the Ateneo campus, you
will see a lot of students exercising before or after school hours. Some are in
the high school court playing volleyball, basketball, or futsal. Others are in
Moro Lorenzo
gym to lift weights and jog around the oval. You won’t only see
the athletes trying be fit for their sport but also the ordinary students here
in Ateneo. So why are there a lot of youths spending so much time in the gym?
Are they conscious about their looks and health? Or they just want to relax and
get away from stress?
Research
shows that physical activity boosts our energy, self-esteem, sleep quality,
mood, and it reduces the risk of many chronic diseases, depression, and stress.
Exercising is very effective at improving alertness and concentration, reducing
fatigues, and enhancing overall cognitive function. It is also considered vital
for maintaining mental fitness. It can be very helpful when stress has depleted
your energy or ability to concentrate. If your body feels better, so does you
mind. A workout of low to moderate intensity makes you feel energized and
healthy. Regular perspiration has shown to elevate and stabilize mood, improve
sleep, improve self-esteem, and decrease overall levels of tension. Exercising is essential if you want to live a
healthy and fulfilling life until you grow old. Scientific evidence shows that
being physically active can lead to a healthier and even happier life.
A
lot of students go to a fitness gym to workout like Fitness First, Elorde Gym, and
Golds Gym. But did you know that there’s a more convenient gym? You don’t have
to go out of the campus to use the treadmill, lift weights, or do aerobic
exercises. The Moro Lorenzo Sports Complex has excellent facilities such as a
fully air-conditioned sports medicine clinic, indoor track oval, a weights
room, indoor badminton and volleyball court, and indoor basketball court where
the basketball teams hold practices. The sports complex is named after Luis
Francisco “Moro” Lorenzo, who was one of the school’s successful basketball
players.
As
a part of the basketball team, we get to practice in Moro gym. We get to use
the facilities like the weights room, the basketball court, and the sports
medicine clinic. I was able to talk to my friend, Isay Sabio She’s an athlete,
football player and a rookie. I asked Isay if she knows about the Moro Lorenzo
gym. “We practice sa football field beside moro and if may injured sa team, we
go sa clinic para magpatherapy.” They don’t use the Moro gym a lot because they
don’t usually lift weights or jog around the oval. A coach of mine also a
trainer in the gym said that she sees a lot of students using their facilities.
Coach Marix said that she’s happy about the students who take time to exercise.
For her, it’s a very healthy way of living.
I
see how important being fit and healthy is. For athletes, it makes us cope up
with what our sports ask from us. For the ones who are not athletes, I suggest
that you start being active. It helps a lot especially with self-esteem and
confidence. It can also be a way for you to relax and be energized. You don’t
have to go out of the campus because Moro Lorenzo is open for all. So I’m
inviting everyone to check out Moro Lorenzo. Start being healthy today so you
can live a happy and active life!
